Supporting Every Learner at St. Mary School

At St. Mary School, we are dedicated to meeting the diverse learning needs of all our students, especially those with dyslexia and other learning challenges. Our commitment to individualized education ensures that every child has the tools and support needed to succeed.

All of our teachers from preschool through fourth grade, along with our interventionists, have completed intensive training in the Orton-Gillingham approach—a highly effective, research-based method that is transforming how reading and spelling are taught in our classrooms. In addition, we conduct regular reading screenings to identify potential challenges early and provide targeted support.

Our intervention program has expanded to serve more students than ever before, with two full-time intervention teachers dedicated to providing individualized reading and math support.

To promote the holistic development of our students, we also integrate programs that nurture both the mind and body:

  • Minds in Motion – Each week, students participate in this movement-based program designed to strengthen the connection between the brain and body. Through fun, structured activities and obstacle stations, students build balance, coordination, and sensory processing skills that enhance focus, memory, and learning in the classroom.

  • Equipping Minds – This cognitive development program helps students strengthen the way they think, learn, and remember. Through engaging games and mental exercises, students improve attention, working memory, processing speed, comprehension, and critical thinking—building confidence and independence in their learning.

At St. Mary School, we believe that every child can thrive when supported academically, physically, and emotionally. Through these innovative programs and dedicated instruction, we are helping students grow into confident, capable learners prepared for lifelong success.

"The teachers are wonderful; giving each student individual attention and meeting our children where they are in their learning journeys. Our child really struggles with reading due to dyslexia that was identified in first grade by her first grade teacher at St. Mary. We have been extremely fortunate for her to be able to receive the help she needs on an individual level. She has a whole team of teachers working with her to increase her abilities to identify strategies to decode words. This has been truly a game changer for her. She went from being hesitant to even try reading saying it was too hard  to wanting to read bed time stories to her siblings. It is truly remarkable."
